| | Tropical Bird in Spain
A wounded tropical bird has been caught in L’Estartit, in northern Spain, thousands of miles from its usual habitat in the tropics. The red-footed booby or “Sula Sula” is thought to have been wounded by swallowing fish-hooks, as it is a bird that usually feeds on small fish. It is known for being a spectacular diver, plunging into the ocean from extreme heights to catch its food.
The red-footed booby’s appearance in northern Spain garnered the interest of many ornithologists as it was the first time it had ever been seen this far north in the world. Unfortunately these ornithologists have stated that it is unlikely the bird will survive its wounds.
