| | Most Expensive Book Ever...Birds of America
The world’s most expensive book is being sold at auction today in London…and it’s a book all about birds!
John James Audubon’s “Birds of America” was a sensation in the 19th century world of natural history and is valued between £4 and 6 million. The book contains paintings and engravings, as well as scientific descriptions, of a variety of birds native to North America. Pictured is Audubon’s representation of the Carolina pigeon, nowadays known as the “mourning dove”.
Whoever purchases the book must certainly have an interest in birds! I wonder if they’ve ever used Birdtrader?
