| | Bird song can make us happy
Naturalists have claimed that listening just to five minutes of bird song can help humans feel happier. Researchers found that recordings of the “dawn chorus” eased needle phobia and tension among young patients at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. The real dawn chorus is quiet at this time of year, and often dominated by the winter song of the robin aggressively protecting its territory. As the days get gradually longer in January and February, more birds add to the chorus. The peak time of year for birdsong is May.
